I love the *smell* inside the Tobias “Thaddeus” Stehman Blacksmith Shop at The Conestoga Area Historical Society. It reminds me of my grandfather’s workshop.

The first issue of the New York Times on September 18, 1851 featured a story about the “Christiana Riot.”

Local History Nugget: In 1846, the nation’s first commercial telegraph provided service between Lancaster and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The inaugural message read, “Why don’t you write, you rascals??” Click the link to read why they chose these words.

On this day—September 20, 1796—George Washington made his fifth and final visit to Lancaster, PA. The President spent the night here en route from Philadelphia to Mount Vernon.
