Over 90 minutes to two hours\, Hudson will bring Marietta’s past to life with tales that connect local landmarks to national history. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat You’ll Discover\n\n\n\nOn this engaging walk\, you’ll explore: \n\n\n\n\nThe true origins of Marietta’s name and the town’s earliest days.\n\n\n\nHow Marietta thrived as both a river and railroad town.\n\n\n\nThe borough’s Civil War connections and even a presidential visit.\n\n\n\nStories from the Underground Railroad that once ran through these very streets.\n\n\n\nThe oldest continuously operating tavern in Lancaster County.\n\n\n\nA rare chance to step inside the 1848 Old Town Hall and explore its museum\, courtesy of the Marietta Restoration Association.\n\n\n\nCurious local characters\, including surprising links to early vaccine development in America.\n\n\n\n\nHudson’s deep knowledge and storytelling style promise to make history not only educational but unforgettable. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Lancaster’s remarkable history during the first Lancaster Capital Day\, a free\, family-friendly street festival featuring live music\, historical performances\, tours\, exhibits\, activities\, local food\, artisans\, and more in the heart of downtown Lancaster. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLancaster made history on September 27\, 1777\, when the Continental Congress met in the city and made it the capital of the United States for one extraordinary day. On Saturday\, September 26\, 2026\, the community will gather in Penn Square to celebrate that remarkable chapter and the people\, places\, and traditions that have shaped Lancaster County. \n\n\n\nThe first Lancaster Capital Day will transform the heart of downtown Lancaster into a free\, family-friendly street festival filled with live music\, historical performers\, reenactments\, architectural and historical tours\, art exhibits\, hands-on activities\, local organizations\, craft vendors\, food stands\, a beer garden\, Capital Day trivia\, and more. \n\n\n\nProgramming will explore Lancaster’s history from the founding of Pennsylvania through the present day\, including Lancaster’s role as the nation’s temporary capital during the American Revolution. Visitors can also enjoy Lancaster Central Market\, participating downtown businesses\, and special Capital Day activities taking place throughout the surrounding area. \n\n\n\nThe festival will be centered on Penn Square\, with activities extending along King and Queen streets.
