Answer to the July Mystery Tool Revealed!
Jennifer Royer, curator at Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum, says that this is a flagging iron. Flagging irons are hand tools used by coopers to pry open joints between wooden barrel staves so they can insert flags to seal the cask against leaks. This one is a short steel shaft, round in section. Curved at one end, with blunt ends.
