Bundling. Beds and inns were scarce during colonial days, so householders often permitted strangers to sleep with family members. This courtesy was extended to army officers traveling between forts, the old peddler, the minister, the doctor, and the candidate for office. Strangers who bunked together did so fully clothed or "Bundled up," hence the term "bundling" for the custom.

In 1905, Samuel Miller Sener delved into the enigmatic world of folklore and superstitions in South Central Pennsylvania, compiling his findings in the 1905 edition of the 'Journal of the Lancaster County Historical Society.'

Here is the Lancaster County Courthouse, as seen in the ‘1875 Historical Atlas of Lancaster County.’ The publication was compiled by the famous cartographer Major L. H. Everts of Geneva, Illinois, who, in 1865, joined a partnership with his Civil War comrade, Captain. T. H. Thompson.

Buchanan also served as the Russian ambassador in 1832 for 18 months, the ambassador to the United Kingdom for three years starting in 1853, and as Secretary of State during the Polk administration.
