Tomorrow begins the 99th annual @west_lampeter_fair. Over the fair's three days, thousands of people will descend upon the tiny hamlet, but few know the origin of the township's name. Legend has it the name was in honor of early resident and handicapped tavern keeper Peter Yeordya. Apparently, the man was affectionately called "Lame Peter." Eventually, the name was abbreviated into Lampeter. Click the bio link in the profile to learn the truth.

👧Girl Power!💪 The first credited female composers in North America lived and wrote their music at the Historic Ephrata Cloister. The Solitary Sisters wrote intricate hymn melodies and texts during the 1740s intended to be sung at worship services. Several compositions and lyrics in the illuminated manuscript known as the 'Ephrata Codex' are attributed to Sister Föben (Christiana Lassie), Sister Ketura (Catherine Hagaman), and Sister Hanna (Hannah Lichty). One of Sister Föben's hymns from 1746 is highlighted in the attached image found on pages 679 and 680 of the Codex.

Local History Nugget: President Buchanan’s Lancaster home at @lancohistory has an eight-seat privy. If you closely examine the image, you can see they are at various heights to accommodate visitors of all ages. 💩

Nestled on the edge of Little Britain Township is the 195-foot-long Pine Grove Covered Bridge. In addition to being the longest covered bridge in Lancaster County, it is also the only two-span covered bridge available for public use.

In the water, it looked like the rim of a broken teacup or saucer, but when I picked it up, I realized it wasn’t ceramic. Did this claw belong to an albatwitch, wendigo, or something slightly more terrestrial? What do you think?
