‘Ghosts, Monsters, and Tales of Adventure’ Book

When I started Uncharted Lancaster in 2019, I set out to explore and share the fascinating hidden history of our region. The second story I ever posted was a “tale of the macabre”—the tragic 1906 Shenks Ferry dynamite explosion, which claimed 11 lives in what remains the worst accident in Lancaster County’s history.

Over the nearly 700 articles I’ve written since, I’ve found myself drawn again and again to the spookier side of Lancaster’s past.

Although I had dreamed of creating this book for years, it wasn’t until the fall of 2024 that I dove into the project, organizing five years of haunting tales. A record-setting wet May and a scorching hot June kept me indoors, focused on bringing these stories together. The result is a book I’m proud to share with you.

📖 Uncharted Lancaster’s Ghosts, Monsters, and Tales of Adventure is my first full-length book. At 283 pages, it is packed with 64 unforgettable stories, all set right here in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

This collection takes you on a spine-tingling journey through the haunted heart of our region. From spectral lanterns flickering in the Safe Harbor woods to the headless horseman of Ironville, from cryptid sightings to outlaw loot, these tales blend real history with gripping folklore.

Perfect for summer nights by the campfire, porch reading, or any time you’re ready for an adventure into Lancaster’s shadowy past.

  1. It’s so refreshing to see stories like these brought to life — especially in a way that feels so rooted in place, Adam. As someone who’s trekked through Nepal, especially the trails around Namche Bazaar toward Everest Base Camp, your book instantly took me back. Just like the legends passed down in Sherpa villages and the quiet mystique of Himalayan monasteries, your tales of Lancaster carry that same timeless energy. There’s something universal in the way certain landscapes hold on to stories — whether in the hills of Nepal or the haunted woods of Pennsylvania.
