August 16: Capital Day Presentation at Blue Rock Heritage Center

Join me at the Blue Rock Heritage Center on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at 2 p.m., for my Capital Day: Lancaster and the Revolution presentation. This in-person program is free and open to the public and hosted by the Lower Susquehanna Archaeological Society, SPA 28.

On September 27, 1777, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, became the capital of the United States for one extraordinary day. This presentation explores the dramatic events that brought the Continental Congress to Lancaster during one of the most dangerous moments of the American Revolution. From the British campaign against Philadelphia to Congress’s hurried flight west, the talk follows the people, decisions, and crisis that placed Lancaster at the center of the nation’s struggle for independence. Attendees will discover what happened inside the courthouse that once stood in Penn Square, who was there, why Congress stayed for only a few hours, and how this often-overlooked moment secured Lancaster’s place in American history.
