Meet “Colonel” John Mead, the enigmatic cave hermit of House Rock. Mead spent the last 25 years of his life living in rock shelters along the Susquehanna River hills entertaining Pequea summer vacationers. Camping has always been an adventure. But Lancaster County's first Boy Scouts at Camp Pequea took it to the extreme with real bridge-building (as shown here in this "colorized" image) and "poling" their supplies upstream.
