Before the turn of the twentieth century, a narrow gauge railroad ran through Shenks Ferry along the banks of Grubb Run. On This Day in History: The Birth of America's First Official Penny! Did you know that on April 21, 1787, the Congress of the Confederation authorized the design for the very first official circulating coin of the United States? Dubbed the Fugio cent, this copper penny carried a design by none other than Benjamin Franklin himself!

This isn't a medieval castle turret overlooking the Enola Low-Grade near Red Hill Road. It was the gatehouse to a 500,000-gallon reservoir that helped feed the railroad’s undying thirst for water. #OnThisDay in history, April 21, 1896: The Great Train Wreck of Manheim - a chilling episode that unfolded in the early hours, claiming one life and leaving several injured. It was a dark and perhaps stormy night when an unattended box car, set adrift by either strong winds or human meddling, began its silent descent towards Manheim.
