Tschantz Graveyard outside of Lampeter is the final resting place for several of Lancaster's first settlers and one of the County's oldest cemeteries.

Finding buried treasure in Lancaster County isn't as simple as grabbing a metal detector. Like all good stories, a bit of superstition and sometimes the supernatural is required to locate your "fortunate and glory." It's unknown if these treasure hunting ideas are Pennsylvania Dutch or Scots-Irish in origin or a blending of the two. Regardless, they put forth an interesting map for finding the riches.

On This Day in History: May 18, 1844. Did you know that Edgar Allan Poe, the master of the macabre, was once published in the Columbia Spy? On this day in 1844, the Columbia Spy, a prominent weekly newspaper of the era, featured the first installment of Poe's "Doings of Gotham." This unique series, part-travelogue and part-gossip column, offered an intriguing and gritty portrait of New York City's early days.

If you know where to look, metal-munching Ents hide in plain sight among the trees of the River Hills. For those not steeped in Tolkien Lore, Ents are sentient tree-like creatures that act as "shepherds" of the woods. They are typically friendly but can become violent if threatened or feel like people are damaging their flock.

This early 1800s painting by an unknown artist shows Martic Forge not long after Robert Coleman acquired it in 1793 with the ironmaster’s mansion back left.
