Camp Pequea on July 4, 1912. This is one of the earliest known photos of a Boy Scout camp in Lancaster County. Columbia Troop 1 pitched these tents on a knoll between the Susquehanna and Pequea Creek. Their first camp was held here in 1911. On July 4, 1803, President Thomas Jefferson completed the Louisiana Purchase. This $15 million land deal added 828,000 square miles to the United States. The next step was to survey the primarily unknown territory.

It was on this day—July 3, 1791—that George Washington made his most triumphant visit to Lancaster. It was his second trip and was now serving as president, Washington was touring southern and eastern states. He came to Lancaster via York on Sunday, July 3, to visit his old friend and military aide, General Edward Hand.
It's going to be another HOT one! Why not cool off while exploring Wind Cave. It's the largest tectonic cave in Pennsylvania. If 2,000 feet of tomb-like darkness isn't your thing, you could always creek stomp while exploring this culvert near the parking area to the cave.
