March Mystery Tool

Jennifer Royer, museum curator at Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum, says March’s mystery tool was a dry seeder for tobacco seeds in the shape of a lawn mower. There is a wooden handle and two iron wheels. Signed: L.B. Forrey, Pat. June 6, 1876.  Henry Landis purchased this from JP Breneman on September 15, 1936, for $1.25.  This piece can be seen on display in the 100th Anniversary exhibit – The Hobby that Became a Museum: Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum, 1925-2025.

Incorrect guesses ranged from a tool for floor cleaner, nail pick up, printer wheel, surveyor’s measuring tool, dough kneader, and small wood planer. Numerous people guessed an old-timey push reel mower or toy lawnmower

Mark Lefever correctly guessed what the tool was.
