Join me for an afternoon of Legendary Tales from the Mighty Susquehanna on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Southern Lancaster County Historical Society. This entertaining and educational in-person program begins at 1:30 pm and is open to the general public. No registration required. Perfect for adults and older children who love to explore or enjoy local history.

Legendary Tales from the Mighty Susquehanna

Flowing through Lancaster County is one of the oldest rivers in the world, a waterway rich with history, mystery, and stories passed down through generations.

In my Legendary Tales from the Mighty Susquehanna presentation, I’ll explore the hidden geography and fascinating folklore of the Susquehanna River. The presentation will feature lesser-known historical accounts, remarkable people and places, and enduring local legends connected to the river and the communities along its banks.

You’ll hear tales of the elusive albatwitch, Lancaster County’s legendary miniature Bigfoot, as well as the mysterious Susquehanna mermaid and other stories inspired by the mighty river.

Where to go

The Southern Lancaster County Historical Society is located at 1932 Robert Fulton Hwy, Quarryville, PA 17566, in a small brick warehouse across from the Robert Fulton Birthplace on Robert Fulton Highway. Seating is first come, first serve with wheelchair accessible. Additional parking is located across the road. Please use caution if crossing the Robert Fulton Highway.
