Is there buried treasure in Lititz?

According to a Lancaster newspaper report, many area residents believed there was.

So much so that in 1879, a rag-tag group of Christmas day-born treasure hunters led by the “Sorceress of Lititz” Hannah Hetherley set out to find the buried hoard hidden somewhere in Lititz. Legend holds, they found it, but the magic protecting the cache was too powerful to allow its removal.

Careful research has shown that the treasure is located at the Lititz Museum; however, the only way to access the gold is to know the magic words that reverse the protection spell.

Recently a diary belonging to Hetherley was located. It would appear that after years of research and mediation, she had uncovered the incantation that will break the hex guarding the treasure. On one page, she created nine clues that, if answered correctly, reveal those magic words. Click here for a printer-friendly PDF of the diary page.

This decoder paper reveals the magic phrase needed to unlock the treasure.

How to Claim the Treasure

Visit the Lititz Museum to answer the questions on this decoder paper correctly. Next, show the completed document and say the magic words indicated on the paper to a docent.
