Second Lock: Haverstick’s
The Second Lock location had the classic trifecta of dam, mill, and bridge.
[Insert “Photo from Canals of the Lower Susquehanna”]The second lock was located where Second Lock Road crossed the river. It had a lift of six feet. A covered bridge at this location was burned by vandals years ago.
Remains of the lock can still be seen on private property just upstream from the foundations of the old bridge. It is one of the two partially intact locks with indentations still evident for the large wooden gates. But this lock has more of a connection to the Conestoga than Lock 8, since water does oftentimes flow through the lock chamber here.
